About the Tetra Kirimin Baby
Kirimin Baby is the standard food for medaka young animals in Japan and can therefore also be used for newly hatched shrimp. The powder is so fine that it remains suspended for a long time and can be ingested by animals just a few millimeters in size. With 48 percent crude protein, it is significantly above normal everyday food, which is desirable in the growth phase. Added oligosaccharides serve as food for the good bacteria in the tank, meaning the water remains more stable. There is a removable spoon in the lid that can be used to dose the tiny amounts that young animals actually need.
This is how you use it in the shrimp tank
Shrimp eat more slowly than fish and in significantly smaller quantities. Add as much as will be absorbed in two to three minutes, and take the rest out after half an hour. Two to three times a week is sufficient for a fully grown colony; the biofilm in the tank provides most of the food anyway.
Flake food can be rubbed between two fingers, so even young animals that can't handle a whole flake can get it. Keep the food cool, dry and tightly closed so that it can be used for several months after opening.
Overfeeding is a bigger problem in shrimp tanks than underfeeding. Remains decompose, nitrite increases, and this is exactly what invertebrates are sensitive to. More about this can be found in shrimp care guide.
Why we import feed from Japan
In Japan, medaka farming is a separate branch of aquarium keeping with appropriately developed feed. What is considered everyday food there is hardly available here: recipes with live cultures, very fine rearing powders, uncolored compositions. We buy the goods directly and store them in Switzerland so that you get them without customs documents and without weeks of delivery.
About the label: This is an original product with a Japanese label. Information on composition, analysis and feeding is provided on this page. If you have a specific question that is not answered here, ask us and we will translate the relevant information for you.
Frequently asked questions about the Tetra Kirimin Baby
Do I even need shrimp breeding food?
Not necessarily. Young shrimp eat biofilm and grow even without additional feeding. But if you breed in a targeted manner, you will get more and stronger animals with fine rearing feed.
How much do I give?
One tip of a knife per feeding is enough for a 20 litre tank. The powder is very rich, and leftovers pollute the water more quickly than coarse feed.
How is the food shipped?
Garnelenfischer only sends feed, by post on Monday or Wednesday. Shipping costs CHF 9.90 per order, and is free for orders of CHF 90 or more. Garnelenfischer does not ship shrimp; You can arrange shipping or collection of animals directly with the seller on the marketplace.
Where does the goods come from?
