Frequently asked questions
The questions that come up most often.
How many shrimp do I need at least?
Most marketplace sellers require ten animals per group as a minimum purchase. In smaller groups Neocaridina hide, show less behaviour, and it is not certain that both sexes are present. For a 20 litre tank, ten animals is a good start, for 40 to 60 litres twenty.
Do I need a heater?
No. Neocaridina live at 18 up to 26 °C, i.e. at normal room temperature. Below 18 °C they become sluggish and reproduce more slowly, but this does not harm them. Above 27 °C the oxygen content drops, then an air pump helps.
Is Swiss tap water suitable?
In most communities, yes, without processing. Neocaridina like medium-hard to hard water with 6 to 20 °dGH, and that's exactly what comes out of the tap in the Mittelland. Mineral salt is only worthwhile in very soft regions such as parts of Ticino.
How long does my tank have to run before shrimp move in?
Three to four weeks until nitrite is permanently at zero. Nitrite is deadly to shrimp even in trace amounts and is not visible in the water. With filter material from a running tank, the time is halved.
Can I keep different colours together?
They get along without any problems, but they interbreed. After two to three generations, the offspring are wild brown again. If stable colours are important to you: one tank, one colour.
How much does it cost to ship food?
CHF 9.90, free for orders of CHF 90 or more. Shipping on Monday and Wednesday, order deadline Sunday 20:00 or Tuesday 12:00 Chaotic Shrimp is under development and cannot yet be ordered. For shrimp from the marketplace, you can arrange shipping or collection directly with the seller.
What do I do if prawns from the market arrive dead?
Contact the seller who sold the animals directly, ideally on the day of delivery, with video or time-stamped photos of the unopened bag. Garnelenfischer is not involved in this purchase and does not accept any money. General information can be found in the shrimp arrived dead guide; Your statutory warranty rights towards the seller remain unaffected.
How do I pay for food?
TWINT, invoice for ten days, bank transfer in advance or cash on collection. After ordering, you will first receive a confirmation with the shipping date, payment will only be made afterwards. Purchases of shrimp are made through the respective marketplace seller and are arranged directly with him.
How big are the animals when shipped?
This is determined by the respective seller; the binding information is in the listing on the marketplace; Garnelenfischer does not maintain its own shipping inventory. Common are young animals of around 1 to 1.5 cm at the age of two to three months, whose gender cannot yet be determined with certainty.
How often do I have to feed?
Two to three times a week, an amount that is gone in two to three hours. The majority of the food is biofilm and decomposed leaves in the tank. Overfeeding is a bigger problem with shrimp than starvation.
Do shrimp reproduce on their own?
Yes, without any action, as long as no fish eat the offspring. A female carries 20 to 30 eggs for three to four weeks, the young hatch as finished miniature shrimp and do not need any special treatment.
Can I pick up food from you?
Yes, by appointment in Schindellegi, free of charge. Select pickup as the payment method in the order form. For shrimp, contact the respective seller on the marketplace directly; He decides for himself whether collection is possible.
Do I really have to film the unpacking of a shrimp delivery?
This is decided by the respective seller, not Garnelenfischer. It is common and recommended to have a complete video or time-stamped photos of the unopened package and bag, which saves questions. Statutory warranty rights and hidden defects remain unaffected.
How do seller ratings work?
The seller is always evaluated, never an individual animal and never a product. A review is only possible with a unique review link: the seller creates this in his account after he has confirmed a completed sale for one of his listings and passes it on himself. Each link is valid for exactly one review and expires after 60 days. You don't need an account to rate.
Does “confirmed” mean that Garnelenfischer has checked the purchase?
No. The seller confirmed, no one checked. Garnelenfischer is not involved in the purchase contract and does not see payment or handover. That's why every review says "marketplace sale confirmed by the seller" and expressly not "verified purchase". There is no seal of approval and no initial rating; If a seller doesn't have a rating yet, none will be displayed on his profile.
Will I receive emails if I have an account?
No. An account alone doesn't sign you up for anything. There are two separate, voluntary notifications: new listings from a specific seller, and an overview of all new listings once a week. Both require an active check mark and then a confirmation via email. The confirmation email comes from hallo@garnelenfischer.ch. Registration is only active after you click. You can unsubscribe with one click, without registering.
What does the help chat do at the bottom right?
He searches the public pages of this website and responds with an excerpt from it plus the link to the location. He doesn't formulate anything himself, invent anything and doesn't mention any prices or stocks that aren't on the page. If it doesn't find anything, it says so. There is no artificial intelligence involved, your question does not leave your browser and is not saved anywhere.
